Preterm infants are generally very sensitive and should be handled with great care when proceeding with physical therapy intervention. Because we are flexible with our treatment locations we are able to help determine the environment that gives your child the best chance at meeting your movement goals while taking into consideration their unique situation.
We are aware that a majority of premature infants are more susceptible to illness and we take great care to making sure our treatment is taking place at a location where they are safe and protected against unnecessary risk.
There are many characteristics of preterm infants that are perfectly normal for their particular situation but that are not as often seen in full term infants. This does not necessarily mean that your preterm infant automatically has a disability or developmental delays but only that they need careful monitoring and intervention as indicated. We believe in consistent re-evaluation as your preterm infant goes through the many changes expected during the first year of life.
