Developmental delay is a broad term used to describe when children are not functioning at an age appropriate level for whatever reason. This is sometimes frustrating to parents because you would like to help your child but you are not sure where to start.
As physical therapists, we generally treat the symptoms that a child presents with as opposed to the diagnosis in which they have. This approach during the diagnostic period and beyond often equates to excellent motor progress with your child.
Regardless of whether or not your child is diagnosed we will continue to work on progressing their gross motor skills and milestones by incorporating a sound neurodeveopmental approach combined with motor learning strategies and a strong family training element.
